McCarthy Tire's 340 Kidder Street location is more than a tire store — it's
the operational heart of a fourth-generation, family-owned commercial tire and fleet
service company. Founded in Wilkes-Barre in 1926, when Joseph McCarthy won the contract
to supply truck tires to the city's first six motor buses, this address now houses our
corporate offices, flagship retail and commercial operations, OTR and industrial
departments, heavy-duty truck repair shop, mounted-wheel program, mobile units, regional
distribution center, and a Bandag retread manufacturing plant a half-mile down the road
that ranks as the largest in Bridgestone's North American Bandag program.
The Kidder Street campus sits in a uniquely strategic spot for fleet customers. We're
minutes from Interstate 81, Interstate 80, and the PA Turnpike Northeast Extension
(I-476) — the three corridors that move freight between New York Harbor, the
Mid-Atlantic ports, and the inland Midwest. That geography, combined with the largest
mounted-wheel inventory in the region, is why distribution fleets, refuse haulers,
construction outfits, and regional LTL carriers stage their tire program here.
Inside the facility, fleets find 7 commercial service bays, one
dedicated alignment lane with Hunter HawkEye Elite equipment, a full Hofmann geodyna
980L heavy-duty wheel balancing line, a complete Truck Shop for DOT inspections,
PM service, brake and air system work, suspension, and diesel engine repair, and the
McCarthy Mounted Wheel Program — ready-to-roll tire-and-rim assemblies that let
participating fleets swap units on their own dock and ship the cores back for retread
credit. It's a true one-stop campus for commercial transportation, industrial equipment,
off-the-road, and forestry customers across the region.
