Off-the-Road Tires:
Built for Extreme Conditions

Off-the-road (OTR) tires are purpose-built for heavy equipment that operates on construction sites, open-pit mines, aggregate quarries, ports, and industrial facilities — terrain where standard commercial truck tires would fail within hours. McCarthy Tire Service has supplied OTR tires and on-site OTR service to quarry, construction, and material-handling customers across the East Coast since 1926.

Our knowledgeable OTR team helps you choose the right construction — bias or radial — and the right fill type — pneumatic, foam fill, or solid — for your specific application, surface conditions, and load requirements. All OTR tires in our inventory are manufactured from high-quality natural rubber compound engineered for extended wear life and superior resistance to cuts, cracks, and punctures.

We also manage ongoing tire performance with Toolbox, a Bridgestone-developed software reporting platform that delivers cost-per-ton analysis so you can benchmark and optimize tire spend across your entire fleet — not just individual units.

Tread Patterns for Every Surface

Matching the tread design to your operating surface is the single most impactful decision affecting tire life and cost-per-ton performance. Our OTR specialists will recommend the right pattern for your conditions.

Rock Pattern

Deep, aggressive lugs engineered for hard, abrasive rock surfaces. Maximizes traction in blasting areas and rocky excavation sites while resisting cuts and impact damage from sharp stone.

Mining • Quarry

Block Pattern

Versatile block tread designed for mixed-surface construction environments — soft ground, gravel haul roads, and compacted fill. Excellent self-cleaning in muddy conditions and stable on variable terrain.

Construction • Earthmoving

Rib Pattern

Continuous circumferential ribs deliver stability and low rolling resistance on hard-packed surfaces, paved haul roads, and port terminals. The preferred choice for RTG cranes and straddle carriers.

Port • Terminal • Hard Road

Smooth / Solid Pattern

Slick or smooth tread engineered for indoor warehouse and factory floors. Eliminates rubber debris and marking while delivering maximum load capacity per square inch. Available in pneumatic and solid configurations.

Warehouse • Industrial

Bias vs. Radial OTR Construction: Which Is Right for Your Operation?

Attribute Bias OTR Tire Radial OTR Tire
Cut & Impact Resistance Excellent — ideal for rocky terrain Good
Heat Dissipation Fair Excellent — better for sustained speeds
Tread Life (hard surface) Good Excellent
Load Capacity per PSI Excellent Good
Best Application Rock/cut environments, short hauls Long haul, high-speed surface ops, ports

Wherever Heavy Equipment Works

McCarthy Tire's OTR division serves every industry that runs heavy off-road equipment — from open-pit mines to port terminals to indoor manufacturing facilities.

Mining & Aggregates

Haul trucks, wheel loaders, graders, and scrapers in open-pit and underground environments. Toolbox reporting to benchmark and optimize tire spend across your high-cost equipment fleet.

Construction

Earthmovers, compactors, graders, and scrapers on active construction sites. On-site tire service and boom-truck dispatch across our East Coast territory — so your equipment stays on production.

Port & Terminal

RTG cranes, straddle carriers, terminal tractors, and reach stackers. Smooth and rib tread patterns for hard terminal surfaces; foam fill for puncture immunity in high-traffic areas.

Material Handling & Warehouse

Large-format forklifts, tow tractors, and lift equipment for industrial facilities. Smooth solid and foam-fill solutions eliminate flat-tire downtime entirely in indoor environments.

Forestry

Skidders, feller bunchers, forwarders, and harvesters on soft, muddy terrain. Deep lug patterns and high-float designs prevent soil compaction and keep equipment productive in demanding conditions.

Government & Infrastructure

DOT-compliant OTR supply and service for government construction, road-building, and infrastructure programs across the East Coast McCarthy service territory.

Foam Fill OTR Tires: Zero Flat Downtime

Foam-filled OTR tires are permanently filled with polyurethane foam, eliminating the possibility of a flat entirely. Ideal for waste-handling facilities, scrap yards, demolition sites, recycling operations, and any application where puncture risk is extreme and downtime is unacceptable. McCarthy performs foam fill in our service bays.

OTR Tire FAQ

OTR stands for "off-the-road." OTR tires are large-format tires designed specifically for heavy equipment operating in environments where standard commercial truck tires cannot perform — mining sites, quarries, construction zones, ports, and industrial facilities. They are measured in different size conventions than highway tires and engineered to carry extreme loads at low speeds over rough, abrasive terrain.
Bias OTR tires have overlapping ply cords running diagonally, creating a stiffer sidewall with excellent cut and impact resistance — ideal for rocky, abrasive environments. Radial OTR tires have ply cords running perpendicular to the direction of travel, producing better heat dissipation and longer tread life on hard surfaces. Our OTR specialists evaluate your specific application before making a recommendation.
Foam fill involves injecting polyurethane foam into a pneumatic OTR tire, permanently replacing the air. The result is a puncture-proof tire that cannot go flat. Foam fill is recommended for applications with extreme puncture risk — scrap yards, demolition sites, waste processing, and recycling operations — where a flat would create major safety or production downtime issues. McCarthy performs foam fill in our service bays.
