Today, we would like to remember John “Jack” McCarthy, who passed away four years ago on January 27, 2014. Jack was a beloved boss, a solid friend, a great father and grandfather to his and CeCe’s children, Mary Ellen, Katie, and John, and a loving grandfather to their children. Jack’s father, Joe, started McCarthy Tire Service in 1926 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Jack had his first ‘job’ in the company at age 12 as an oil-bottle cleaner. After holding a variety of positions to learn all aspects of the business, he become president in 1957.
Jack’s vision for his company, as well as his integrity, commitment, and hard work, grew the business from a small tire shop into a national company that now has more than 50 service locations in nine states. A generous philanthropist, Jack was dedicated to his community. He served as an active board member for a number of nonprofits in the Wilkes-Barre area, a legacy that he has passed down to his children and grandchildren.
