Effective Today, McCarthy Tire Service’s Retail Operations and Automotive Center Will Share the Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania Address

WILKES-BARRE, PENNSYLVANIA, October 5, 2020 – McCarthy Tire Service announces that it will move its retail operations from 520 Pierce Street in Kingston, Pennsylvania, two miles away to join the automotive center at the company’s flagship store on 340 Kidder Street in Wilkes-Barre. The change is effective immediately.

McCarthy Tire Service has weathered many serious challenges since it was founded in 1926, and 2020 ranks as one of the most difficult. Throughout the years, the McCarthy family has been committed to maintaining a strong, robust company that can fulfill its responsibilities to its associates and their families, provide top-notch service to its customers, and support the communities where it operates.

The closing of the Kingston, Pennsylvania location was a difficult and painful decision for the McCarthy family, who cite pandemic-related economic downturns as the reason for the move.

Our senior leadership team carefully considered the best course of action for the hard-hit Kingston store, its teammates, and the entire company as whole.

“Closing our Kingston location was one of the hardest decisions we’ve had to make,” said John D. McCarthy Jr., president of McCarthy Tire Service. “This was the second store in our company. My father opened it in 1978, and it was where most of us in the family had our first training in the tire business.

“However, our number one goal has always been to give our customers the very best service. The Kingston team has faced some insurmountable challenges these last few months. In order to maintain our commitment to our customers, we have decided to close the store and merge the team into our Wilkes-Barre automotive center.”

Former Kingston Manager Darryl Givens has joined McCarthy Tire’s commercial location in Dickson City, Pennsylvania, as the assistant manager. Assistant retail manager Herb Tietje and the automotive technicians were moved to the Wilkes-Barre location’s retail department, bringing that team up to full strength. McCarthy Tire transferred the tire and service equipment to Wilkes-Barre as well.

McCarthy Tire Service’s flagship store is located at 340 Kidder Street in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The facility now houses McCarthy Tire Service’s corporate offices, as well as the commercial tire department, off-the-road and industrial tire department, heavy duty truck repair department, mounted wheel program, mobile units, and regional distribution center. McCarthy Tire’s Bandag-system retread tire manufacturing plant, a scant half-mile down the road, is the largest in Bridgestone’s North American program.
